Christy Kosmicki is an artist and art educator currently serving as an Assistant Professor of Art Education in the Department of Art and Design at the University of Nebraska at Kearney (UNK). She holds an MFA in Painting & Mixed Media, MAEd in Art, BA in K-12 Art Education, and BA in K-12 Music Education. Kosmicki was added to the Visual Arts Rosters for the Nebraska Arts Council Artists in Schools/Communities (AiSC) in 2023 and in the Creative Aging Arts Program (CAAP) in 2022.
With a diverse studio background and teaching experience in 2D, 3D and mixed media, Christy is open to creating a residency tailored to the needs of the participants. Drawing from her 33 years as a public-school art teacher, she can adapt workshops to suit the grade level and developmental stages of students. Christy is flexible in planning residencies of any desired length and can provide a materials list, digital copies of worksheets, resources, and curriculum materials for future use.
Kosmicki states that “To be an effective visual arts educator, I must continually be involved in the creative process; modeling my passion to learn, create and exhibit my work.” She believes that “the creation and study of art is a transformational experience that has the potential to expand the mind, challenge the human spirit and open up endless possibilities.” Kosmicki exhibits in various 2D and 3D media and has shown her work in solo shows, joint exhibitions, and invitationals, receiving numerous awards for painting, mixed media, and sculpture.
Some of Kosmicki’s recent accolades include the acceptance of her porcelain sculpture "All Good Gifts" into the SAGE 13th Annual National Juried Show in Sheridan, WY, juried by Robert Martinez (F2023); a 3rd Place Award in the NATA 2023 Art Educators annual juried show for her acrylic painting "Dancing Hummers" exhibited at the Lux Center for the Arts in Lincoln, NE; and her Styrofoam relief sculpture "Rising From the Ashes" selected for the NAC regional juried competition, now part of the permanent collection at Discovery Hall on the University of Nebraska at Kearney campus (2020).
In addition to exhibiting her artwork, Kosmicki has presented at various conferences and educational events, including NAEA National Conferences, NATA State Conferences, and workshops for Educational Service Units, schools, and art organizations such as the Museum of Nebraska Art (MONA).
